Easy to clean...easy to clean...easy to clean! This seems to be a common request from our clients. And I'm all about finding ways to simplify the mundane tasks at home. Cue performance fabrics. Performance fabric is a term used in the furniture industry to describe fabrics that are easy to clean and withstand the wear and tear of everyday life. They are the best choice for high traffic areas and living spaces you just want to relax in. Simple stains will typically come out with a little water and blotting, and tough stains can be removed with some household cleaners, a bleach mixture or a common upholstery cleaner.

This particular sectional here features Revolution Performance Fabrics (RPF) in Hailey Bone. RPF is a family owned fabric mill located in North Carolina. Their fabrics are produced here in the US and are PFC free. That just means the fabric is inherently stain resistant vs. having a chemical applied to the fabric to repel stains. Most stains can be removed by making a solution of one ounce of bleach to 30 ounces of water in a clean spray bottle. Yes you heard me, bleach and water on any of their fabrics. It's really pretty magical. The majority of our sectionals feature RPF and our clients love it! You can see more photos of this project here.
Another option when it comes to performance fabrics are fabrics that have been coated with a PFCs. PFCs are a group of chemicals used to make fluoropolymer coatings and products that resist heat, oil, stains, grease, and water. This is how performance fabrics were first introduced to the general public. Most of us are familiar with Sunbrella fabrics or Scotchguard. Sunbrella is a great example of a fabric coated in PFCs. Fabrics with PFCs are oftentimes fairly simple to clean. You can see in this quick 30 second video that we poured wine and it sat on the surface and then we were able to simply dab it to remove it.
We loved the texture on this fabric. We used it on this custom sectional in our Knights Ferry project!
